Seriously? Is there anything I can’t win this summer?
First an iPod and a laptop at BlogHer. Today a scale. Where are the car contests? The private island contests? OK. OK. How about just the million dollar contests. No? Bummer.
I turned down the prize scale, if you must know. I only won it because my Tweightloss* team won this week’s weigh-in and I was picked as the lucky recipient of the prize. I was flattered to be the big winner, but I just couldn’t betray my own scale by replacing it so callously.
My scale and I have a deep, possibly even transcendent love/hate relationship. We’ve shared so many morning moments over the years. How could I possibly shove it aside in favor of a new sleeker model? That might enrage the karma gods or something. And that could be very very bad.
So I resisted even checking out the make and model of the prize scale. I averted my eyes lest my own scale sense my wanderlust. It punishes me for even contemplating chocolate or pancakes so I don’t dare imagine what it might do if I considered chucking it. Boggles the mind. What if it declared that I gained 5lbs overnight or something. Shudder.
Tomorrow morning when I step onto my faithful Weight Watcher’s scale (purchased at Target on sale a couple years ago) that records my last 5 weights to 1/10th of a pound I’m not going to try to imagine what the new scale might have looked like. Nope, not going to do it. But, let’s be honest, if my scale says that I gained weight today, despite the long walk and the salad lunch… well then all bets are off and I might have to claim that prize. Maybe the new scale will be so grateful that it’ll try to stoke my self esteem. One can only dream.
*Tweightloss is the brainchild of a couple people on Twitter who were tired of being tired of their extra pounds. It’s Biggest Loser meets Social Media. And it’s working. 81 Tweeters started the challenge last Monday. At the end of the first week we had already lost a collective 116.1lbs. Not too shabby, eh?
You want in? It’s not too late, a second round starts Monday, August 11. Join Twitter and contact @AudreyMcClellan to participate. I’ll meet you on the treadmill.
