My very first contest in honor of the very first Fit Friday

standard April 18, 2008 12 responses

In two weeks Little L will be 9 months old. She will officially have been out in the world as long as she was in the womb.

I’m still 12lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight, and 19lbs over my goal weight.

I’m still wearing clothes at least two sizes over what I want to be wearing.

And I still can’t stop shoving my face full of things that aren’t helping me drop the extraneous weight.

My friends at Weight Watchers just sent me a box of goodies that have arrived in the nick of time. Apparently they’ve been reading my mind; time to get back on the wagon! I keep losing and gaining the same three pounds and it just has to stop. Haven’t my hips noticed that it’s almost bathing suit weather? Hasn’t my brain noticed the disastrous food choices it’s making?

Enough is enough. Tomorrow I’m taking control of the situation, and I’m taking you with me. No joke. Clearly I can’t do this alone; I need you to help me along. So I’m starting my very own weekly blog carnival: Fit Fridays. (It was going to be Thin Thursdays, but focusing on health seems so much more mature than focusing on thin. No?) And in honor of the very first Fit Friday I’m going to host my very first contest, but I’m getting ahead of myself, let me introduce Fit Fridays first.

Once a week, let’s say Friday just for the heck of it, come here to see what healthful thing I’ve done during the week to help me reach my goal. It could be that I journaled all week, or the details of a walk I took, or maybe it’s just the recipe for something yummy and healthy that I cooked.

And you? You ask? Well, you blog about something healthful you did during the week. You know, to keep me motivated and make me feel less alone in my quest for the perfect a healthy body. See? It’s brilliant, we promote our blogs and get healthy at the same time! Then we’ll be the most gorgeous most popular bloggers on the internet. Bwahhahhaha. (Insert maniacal laughter here.) OK, fine, a girl can dream, no?

To kick off the health craze I’m going to start by making a healthy vow for the coming week. If you feel like it, you do the same (in the comments; I’m working on getting the Mr. Linky up and running.) and next Thursday I’ll pick a lucky winner at random to receive a full Weight Watcher* starter kit ($45 value). Tell your family, tell your friends. This is a great prize and a great cause: our health!

So here goes: This week I vow to journal every day. (For those not familiar with Weight Watchers lingo: Journaling = keeping a food diary. It’s the most simple, most effective weight loss tool in the world.) What do you vow?

*Starter kit includes: 1 Dining Out Companion, 1 Complete Food Companion, 1 three month journal, 1 Meal Survival Guide, 1 $10 value coupon book.

  • Hmmm, intriguing! I adore WW.

  • this is a good idea..I did ww years ago and it did work..
I just haven’t had the willpower to do it again..

maybe you can push me there..

  • Wonderful! Way to go! Getting back to healthy living is difficult, yet doable! Rock on! You can do it!

  • Sounds like a great idea!! I keep trying to get on that wagon and keep missing but I have GOT to do something!!! You go girl!!!!

  • It can be difficult to lose weight and stay motivated.

I am on week 6 of my weight loss journey.. and it’s getting tougher. I have finals this week and my goal is to not cheat and still work out even with all my studying. Must drink a lot of water and not eat out.

  • Hi. I linked to your site from NaBloPoMo. Great idea! I have a son who is 10 months old and I have been trying to do something about this floppy ring that settled around my waist after he was born. It is pretty stubborn, though! The weather is finally nice here so my vow is to go for a walk or a run every day for the next week.

    Thanks! And good luck!!!

  • W8 Loss Wednesday is already kickin my butt. But this is a GREAT idea. I’m with you in spirit 100%. Hmmm… actually W8loss Wed is a video. Perhaps I could expand what I did on the video into something more descriptive, like a tip or something. This could be possible…

  • Way to go! My son is 10 months old and I am still 20 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight and 30 lbs over my “desirable” weight.

I just started a food journal on Monday. I’ve been writing down my meals and keeping track of the calories, carbs, fat and protein intake – trying to stay within my “healthy” ranges.

My vow for next week is to do at LEAST 20 minutes of cardio every day (this week I was only doing it every other day.)

  • Congratulations! I’m on week nine, myself. I will drink six glasses of water a day.

  • Ok. I started Curves a month and a half ago. But that hasn’t helped my eating. So, I am with you on this one. I will TRY to keep a food journal. But i will definately do fit fridays with you!

  • I’m going to give this some thought…might be a great idea. I’ll come check in on you on Friday. 🙂
