I quit.

That’s it. I quit.
No, not my job. Though it’s not for lack of desire, but it seems that we need the paycheck.
No. I quit all the extras. All the things that are weighing me down, making me feel guilty or anxious. Apparently it’s not just our kids who are over programed. I took a look at my calendar and my to do list and I can only conclude that we adults have way too much on our plates too. And this mama has had enough. I just can’t do it any more. And so; I quit.

I’m quitting my book club. Sorry ladies, I love you and I’m going to miss our monthly gab fests, but I just can’t keep up with all the books I want to read as well as our reading list, I just end up feeling guilty that I once again haven’t finished (or even started) the book. And frankly, I can’t handle any more guilt these days.

I’m quitting all, and any, home selling businesses that I thought were going to be my salvation. Honestly? Who was I kidding? Bye bye BabyCrazy. Bye bye Usborne. You guys are going to be fine without me, and I’m going to be great without you.

I’m quitting any pretenses about my house. We’re going to pare down and organize what we can, and then we’re going to let the chips fall where they may. And if that means that the laundry never gets folded, well, so be it.

I’m not quitting my kids, my husband, my friends, or my writing. I’ll keep cooking as often as I can. And maybe, just maybe, that’ll be enough for me to stay sane another month or two.

  • You’ll feel better about everything once you get your baby sleeping better at night and during the day.

I PROMISE!! You can do it!!

I’m here to cheer you up and encourage you. Can you feel the support? I’m like a good bra!! 🙂

(Although, in the meantime, I’m all for not spreading yourself too thin with commitment. It’s freeing to say no!)

  • Good for you!

Might I say, I have a toddler who has yet to sleep through the night, 2 dogs, hardwood floors and a similar attitude towards housework. I say a prayer of thanks daily for my roomba. It makes a great Mother’s Day gift! 🙂

  • Hang in there! It’s hard with two kids, a job, and still have to maintain all the daily life while satying sane. Simplifying your life will definitely help with your stress level, maybe I should try that too!

    How’s the babe?

  • That’s a great affirmation. Isn’t it amazing how guilty we make ourselves feel over things we said we’d do because they sounded fun, and then suddenly weren’t? Women!

  • You know what…there is something to be said for just enjoying your life and not overextending yourself…

    Don’t stop blogging though 🙂

  • Hi! I was thinking of you this morning, when I was driving to school, to teach art.
It just didn’t let me go. You know, I lived a long time in Switzerland and was teaching there. The system of this country is just so different: All stores close at 6.30 pm, Saturdays your are lucky if a city has the stores open until 4 pm. The moms, well, the most have to stay at home, as there are not as much part time and no night work, like here. I had so many moms coming to me, wishing they could do something, then being at home. And they need the money as well.

What I am trying to say is, you are doing alot!!! Two small children, working, a family, a house, what more can you do! I wish so much for you, that you find some time, even if it is a little 15 mins. to breath fresh air, by yourself, no kids, no nothing.

To all the things we here in America somehow feel to do and almost have to do, wow, just take it easy.
As my wise art teacher said to me, as I was strungling with time management problems (I was working, volunteering, taking classes and and and):

There is a time for everything!

I thought, oh yeah!? But now, almost 15 years later, I have to give her right.

Relax, take it slower, keep the books for later on, just enjoy the moment and presenz. Try not to have to many wishes, what I would love to do….., just do one thing you love best!

    Thinking of you!
