“I no wanna nap!”
“I no wanna go to bed!”
“I wanna sleep mammy’s bed!”
“I all done with my dodo*!”
“No! No! No! No! No dodo!”
“Wahhhhhhhhhh!”
Every day, it’s the same litany. Every day, it’s the same fight. I want them to nap; they want to play. I want them to sleep; they want one more glass of water. I want them to shut their eyes; they want to keep them wide, wide open.
Some days I feel like I spend as much time trying to convince my children to sleep as they actually spend asleep. And I stand over their cribs and I think to myself, “You wouldn’t have to beg me to go to sleep! No one would have to cajole me into closing my eyes, resting my head. Nope, not me. I want to nap!”
They say youth is wasted on the young. I say, naps are wasted on the children. One day, it’ll be them begging their babies to just. go. to. sleep. please. And I’ll smile, and nod, and make understanding noises, and then I’ll go take a nap, and trust me, I’ll appreciate every second of it.
*dodo = French for night night

I know just what you mean! I’d be so grateful if somebody tried to let me sleep.
It’s so hard sometimes to hear what they are trying to tell you. I hope that you can reach an understanding, and that YOU can rest.
Yup, I must have been h-e-double-toothpicks to my mother, and now I’m getting it back many (MANY, MANY) times over! *LOL*
Funny! True! Sleep is wasted on the young.
