“I go nigh nigh on da airplane.” C quipped as her eyes drooped at the zoo on Sunday.
It was the end of our whirlwind trip to Calgary, we were at the zoo with everyone, enjoying the afternoon before having to head home. C was so excited about the flight home that after each exhibit she would clap her hands together and squeal “Is time for da airplane now?” But by the time is was time to go she was so tired she could barely keep her eyes open.
“I go nigh nigh on da airplane.” She repeated over and over again as we headed to the car. If only! I thought to myself, hoping to catch a few winks during the flight myself.
Being the Super-Mom that I am I got us through check-in and customs with no issues, and soon enough we were on the plane. C sat back in her comfy car seat, snuggled her doggy close and sighed. I gathered my book and magazines and sat back. We were ready for take-off. As if on cue the plane started to move and I glanced over at C. Sound asleep. I hold my breath for a second and touch her cheek. Her breath deepens a little and she snuggles in a little better. It’s a dream come true. With the noise of the plane and the sleep deprivation she’s accumulated over the weekend I can easily expect her to sleep the whole way home.
I smile as I crack my book open. I close my eyes for a minute and just breathe, enjoying a moment of quiet in the middle of the chaos. I have a good two hours to myself and no where to go except deep into my book or far into my dreams. I open my eyes and let myself soar.
